Portuguese media outlet Record claimed that Benfica has rejected a €100m offer for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez who has been heavily linked with Liverpool in recent weeks.
The Primeira Liga club insists that the 21-year-old would only be let go in January if any club triggers the €120m release clause.
Liverpool are rumoured to be in for Fernandez who received the FIFA World Cup Young Player Award after playing a key role in his team's win in Qatar.
However, it is not clear if Liverpool were the club that submitted the bid. Record claims that it was not Jurgen Klopp's side. At the same time, another Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha reports that it was.
In any case, it looks like a January transfer is less likely — and more costly — than a summer deal when Benfica would supposedly be more willing to negotiate.
