'It's only my second game as a starter this season': Diogo Jota explains worrying Portugal substitution

Diogo Jota was taken off the pitch in the second half during Portugal's 1–0 defeat against Spain in the UEFA Nations League.

This led to Liverpool fans worrying about a potential injury to the 25-year-old but it turns out that the substitution was merely a precaution.

Speaking to O Jogo, the Portuguese said: "I made the substitution request. I didn't have a pre-season.

"It's only my second game as a starter this season, and I was already feeling a little tired at the end of the season."

Therefore, Jota will be available for selection when Liverpool return to Premier League action with a home clash against Brighton on Saturday, October 1.
