'They've stagnated', 'Real shame': 8 rival club fans and 2 pundits react to Liverpool's summer business

Liverpool's transfer window was less than ideal according to a lot of the club's own fanbase, with just Ibrahima Konate coming in as fresh blood.

A midfielder wasn't signed but the Reds did manage to get a number of fringe players off the books like Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson.

Here's a look at how fans of rival clubs reacted to Liverpool's transfer business during this transfer window.

Tanish S (Chelsea fan): "It's good for us to see that Liverpool haven't built upon their squad, could have spelled trouble if they had signed a new forward or replaced Wijnaldum.

Gursher (Man United fan): " Liverpool honestly still feel like a threat even if they haven't added much. Konate is a shrewd signing and it'll be scary to think what he might be like after playing next to Van Dijk.

Deo AD (Man City fan): "Abysmal window for the Reds, they've stagnated since they beat us to the Premier League. Think we'll easily finish about the now. Real shame since the rivalry has been brilliant the last few seasons."

Pundits

Jamie Carragher: "I’m not worried about it, that’s the basic model," the former Red told Sky Sports.

"Liverpool’s owners don’t have the revenue of Manchester City, Roman Abramovich, nor do they bring in as much money as Manchester United do. So, Liverpool have had a model since FSG have come in and it’s worked spectacularly.

"They’re seen as one of the best operators in the transfer market and how they go about their business. What Liverpool don’t do is they don’t make silly decisions, compared to when I was a player."

Jose Enrique: "I am concerned with Liverpool’s lack of business in the transfer window so far, the problem with the owners is that we’ve had to sell before buying players in the past – and that seems to still be the case.

"The only reason we have players like Alisson and Van Dijk is because we sold Philippe Coutinho. Without that, we wouldn’t have these players and probably the titles they helped us win.

"I believe the signing of Konate was great and it was for the right money, but sometimes you have to go out and spend the big money on the big players.

"Before Alisson and Van Dijk arrived, we were contenders to win titles and after they signed, we actually won one. So these kind of players are needed.

"Why can Manchester United go to Real Madrid and sign one of their best players in Raphael Varane and we can’t?"
