Dejan Lovren wins back-to-back titles as Zenit triumphs in Russian Premier League

As it turns out, the only player from the 2019-20 Liverpool squad to win the league in the following campaign is Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian centre-back won the Russian Premier League with Zenit St Petersburg with two games to go. On Sunday, they hammered their closest challengers Lokomotiv 6-1.

"I'm really happy, it's incredible! This is what brings me a lot of emotions. That is why I came here - to win trophies with this wonderful club. This is one of my happiest days. Maybe, I was a little happier when I moved here," the 31-year-old told his club's official website.

Lovren has been injured for the last month (after all, he was a Liverpool centre-back) but before that, he played a significant role in Zenit's success, playing 21 games and scoring 2 goals.

'Life is more than material things': Lovren and Salah laughing on FaceTime as Super League burn in flames

The news surrounding the European Super League dominated the footballing world for around 48 hours.

During those days, Dejan Lovren gave us a firm reminder of what's more important than football - friendship and life! The former Red uploaded a cute screenshot of him speaking with his best friend Mo Salah on a video call.

The defender captioned his image: "When nothing goes right...Go left and laugh with your friend! Life is more than material things."

Fortunately, the Super League plans were eventually scrapped, so Salah, Lovren and the fans have more reasons to laugh and smile now - or, in the case of the Liverpool fans, just breathe out with relief.

Lovren: 'Klopp recently said that Liverpool misses me'

Asked whether he regrets leaving Liverpool as his old club are undergoing an injury crisis at the centre-back position, Dejan Lovren told Sport Express: "No, I don’t regret it.

"My decision in the summer was firm - to leave Liverpool, and I do not look back. I got upset last season when I didn't play, but now everything is different.

"I think Liverpool miss me more than I miss them. And Jurgen Klopp knows this, because we communicate. He wrote recently: 'We miss you.'"

Lovren was sold to Zenit St Petersburg in the summer and the Reds did not sign a centre-back to replace him in the summer.

However, that turned out to be a mistake as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were ruled out for the season and Fabinho has had to play in the defence for the past 2 months. While Lovren was never the best centre-back in the world, we could have definitely used him this season!
