TikTok beats alcohol as problem gambling trigger, research shows

According to recent research conducted by Tampere University (Finland) scientists and the Finnish Foundation for Alcohol Studies, TikTok influences gambling addiction and other problem gaming symptoms more than alcohol.

The researchers have interviewed over 1,500 people within the three-year period. The interviews revealed a high correspondence between the use of TikTok and gaming addiction.

The Finnish scientists believe it happens because scrolling down short videos is similar to playing slots.

Surprisingly, alcohol triggers problem gaming less effectively. On a scale from 0 to 1, where 1 means complete correspondence, alcohol reaches only 0.18 while TikTok is rated at 0.21.
