Another Premier League club hit with points deduction — not Man City

As if Sheffield United didn't have enough misery, they have now been slapped with a 2-point deduction. The punishment will come into effect next season, which is probably bad news for the Blades whose relegation is but a given.

The deduction relates to the 2022/23 campaign when the club defaulted on a series of payments.

Sheffield United are thus now the third club in this season's Premier League to have suffered a points deduction. Previously, Everton were docked 10 (reduced to six on appeal) and then two more, while Nottingham Forest suffered a four-point deduction.

One club with heavy accusations weighing down but going unscathed is Man City. Pep Guardiola's club are charged by the Premier League on 115 counts, but no decision as to their fate has been made yet.
