'Toxic, toxic man': Fan feels sorry for Portugal ahead of Euro 2024 after Cristiano Ronaldo's latest misconduct

Cristiano Ronaldo showed his nasty side again as he shoved an opponent and nearly swiped at the referee in a Saudi Super Cup clash. This isn't the first time Ronaldo has reacted angrily when things don't go his way in the Middle East.

An unstable Ronaldo is also the reason why some fans believe Portugal will implode at the upcoming Euro 2024.

Chuck Borowski tweeted: "And this is why I pity Portugal. They'll have to take this passenger to Euros and play him every game or he throws a fit and maybe even punches someone. Toxic, toxic man. If they somehow win it while effectively being one man down, it'll be as big as Greece 2004."

Previously, Portugal boss Roberto Martinez actually praised Cristiano Ronaldo for his role in the squad.

"I've worked with many, but what sets Cristiano apart is the need to always be prepared to be the best," Martinez told RTVE. "A contagious hunger, but very difficult to achieve."

Martinez also played Ronaldo in almost every game of the qualifying campaign that Portugal breezed through. Cristiano scored 10 in nine games against group opponents Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Bosnia, and Iceland.

Portugal's opponents in the group stage at Euro 2024 are Turkey, Georgia, and Czechia. Though the group doesn't seem scary, you do wonder about Ronaldo's involvement with the squad if Portugal goes through.

Portugal won Euro 2016 with Cristiano in the squad, but he was arguably in his prime back then. Eight years onwards, Ronaldo is 39 years old and his behaviour may raise concerns.

Then again, Ronaldo is no stranger to breaking expectations and proving everyone wrong.
