What did Birmingham squad think of Wayne Rooney before his sacking?

Recent leaks from the Birmingham City dressing room have shed light on what the players truly felt about Wayne Rooney.

When the former Manchester United forward, took the helm as Birmingham's manager in October, it stirred discontent among the team. The decision to replace John Eustace with Rooney didn't sit well initially, and this sentiment lingered, especially after a rough start under the 38-year-old.

The frustration peaked during Monday's 3-0 loss against Leeds United, where Birmingham fans expressed their dissatisfaction through harsh chants directed at Rooney.

Following this, news surfaced on Tuesday confirming Rooney's dismissal from his managerial role at Birmingham City after overseeing just 15 matches.

Now, what the players really thought of Rooney has reportedly been revealed. The Athletic stated: "Rooney wasn’t unpopular with his players, despite the results and some strong public criticism of them from the manager."

"Rooney had occasionally questioned his squad’s mental strength, ability and even personal pride — comments which had stung a few of them."

The report mentioned that Rooney wasn't very involved during training. His assistants, Carl Robinson and John O'Shea, mostly handled the training sessions. Meanwhile, Ashley Cole was mainly responsible for organizing set pieces.
