Neymar's Brazil injury could cost FIFA millions

Neymar's recent ACL injury, sustained while playing for Brazil, could potentially lead to a hefty compensation bill for FIFA. The Brazilian star ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in a match against Uruguay, leaving the field in tears during a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Neymar faces an extended recovery period, usually between eight to 10 months, due to this injury. As a result, he won't be available to play for his new club, Al Hilal.

According to The Sun, Al Hilal has a positive outcome through the Club Protection Program. FIFA must cover players' wages if they are sidelined for more than 28 days due to an injury sustained while playing for their national team.

However, the maximum compensation FIFA can provide is €7.5 million (£6.5 million), calculated based on a daily "pro rata" rate of up to €20,548, for a maximum of 365 days. It's important to note that this compensation is significantly lower than Neymar's club earnings.

Neymar's monthly earnings amount to approximately £10 million, meaning that if he doesn't return to play for Al Hilal, the financial impact on the club could reach a staggering £85 million.
