'I turned it down because of my word': Jose Mourinho on his craziest job offer in the history of football

Jose Mourinho has recently been in the spotlight regarding his potential departure from The Stadio Olimpico. In August Roma's coach confirmed that he was approached by 'top management' to take charge of Saudi Arabia's national team.

Mourinho was presented with a significant two-year deal, reportedly valued at €120 million, as reported by Coriello Dello Sport. This would have made him the highest-paid manager in football history.

According to the Mirror, Mourinho said: "Would I renew now? It's a hypothetical situation, I can't answer. What I can say is that three months ago there was almost a drama to think that I could leave.

"In Budapest on the pitch I told the players that I would stay, after Spezia I reiterated it to the fans, two-three days later I gave my word to Mr. Friedkin."

"In the summer I had the biggest, most important and craziest job offer a coach has ever had in the history of football: I turned it down because of my word. Now it seems that I am a problem, I do not accept it. I don't accept it because it's not true, I'm not a problem."

In addition to the national team offer, Mourinho had turned down two lucrative proposals from Al Ahli and Al Hilal with the latter being worth an impressive €30 million per season.
