Arsenal beat Man City to the Community Shield trophy thanks to a late equaliser from Leandro Trossard and the consequent victory in the penalty shootout.
This makes three years in a row Pep Guardiola fails to win the trophy. Last year, they lost to Liverpool (3-1) and the year before to Leicester City (1-0).
The last time Man City won the Community Shield was in 2019 when they beat Liverpool on penalties.
For all the City dominance over the past 6-7 years, they don't win the Community Shield that often as they've only won it twice in Pep Guardiola's era.
Not like we try to trumpet it as a major trophy, although it seems to mean the world to Mikel Arteta. It's probably more indicative of Guardiola's preparations for every season. His teams tend to stutter at the start of a new campaign only to blossom into a juggernaut around January.
