Woman takes charge of male team for first time in England's pro league — she replaces Duncan Ferguson

In a landmark move for football in England, Hannah Dingley has been appointed interim manager at League Two side Forest Green.

Dingley, 39, takes over after Duncan Ferguson was sacked by the club following the relegation from League One.

It's not known yet if Dingley will be given the chance to continue on a permanent basis but she is used to being a pioneer. In 2019, she became the first woman to coach a men's academy team in England, also at Forest Green.

Forest Green is a club with a 133-year-long history but they spent most of it outside the professional pyramyd.

They won promotion to League One in 2022 but finished dead last in the past campaign, becoming the first club across England's first four leagues to be relegated. Duncan Ferguson only managed one win following his appointment in January.

Maybe Hannah Dingley will do better.
