Leo Messi drops 'indigestible' performance despite assist, rated lowest in PSG win

Paris Saint-Germain are one step away from another Ligue 1 trophy (surprise-surprise) after beating Auxerre 2-1 away from home. Kylian Mbappe scored a brace with Leo Messi assisting once.

However, as Parisians can afford to sleepwalk to domestic trophies, the press aren't so willing to cut them some slack and Leo Messi is always in the front row when it comes to bashings.

A notable example is the website called FootMercato which rated Messi 3/10, the lowest among the PSG squad.

"Head down, barely visible, terribly frustrating at long periods," FootMercato describe the Argentinian.

They go on: "Totally non-existent in the defensive phase, [he made just] a few fruitless runs back, preferring to watch his teammates trying to win the ball back. Sometimes his eyes were even riveted to the stands. As if he was already away from PSG."

To each his own, but it seems like an extremely harsh assessment. Even L'Equipe, known for their strict ranking system, gave Messi 6/10 with a bunch of other players rated lower.

According to WhoScored, Messi made 5 key passes and 4 successful dribbles, although his passing success was only 81%

Messi was also booed again, something he is used to in France and it doesn't matter whether he plays home or away. It seems like a foregone conclusion that Leo will leave PSG once his contract expires in a month. There is no love between the World Cup champion and the glitz of PSG as he didn't even thank his current team at a recent Laureus Award speech.
