FIFA, the world's football governing body, have taken a further step in punishing Russia after the country's invasion of Ukraine.
After suspending the county's national team from all its competitions last week, FIFA have now officially kicked Russia out of the 2022 World Cup.
The latest development means that Poland, who were due to face Russia in the playoff semi-final on March 29, have been given an automatic bye to the playoff final.
A FIFA statement read: "The FIFA Organising Committee decided that Poland will receive a bye to the final in which they will face the winners of the match between Sweden and the Czech Republic."
