FIFA has announced the opening of a unique transfer window for the footballers stuck in Russia and Ukraine amid their war.
This ‘transfer window’ allows any player or head coach to suspend their contracts with Russian or Ukrainian clubs until the end of the season.
The ‘suspension’ of the contract would mean those individuals would be ‘out of contract’ or free agents until June 30, 2022.
This would allow the players or managers to sign a short-term contract with any club until the end of the season without facing any punishment.
However, the individuals with a contract that stretches beyond the summer with a Russian or Ukraine club need to return to that club after June 30.
FIFPRO, the players’ union’, believes that this temporary situation would be no help for the footballers and has demanded FIFA allow them to terminate their contracts without any punishment.
