The former captain of the Egypt national football team, Mohamed Aboutrika has hit out at FIFA for failing to take action on Israel after they banned Russia from all competitions.
He said: “The decision to suspend Russian clubs and teams from all competitions must be accompanied by a ban on those affiliated with Israel, which has been killing children and women in Palestine for years. You’re using double standards.”
Russia have been banned by FIFA for their military invasion of Ukraine, with the football federation deciding to stand in solidarity with the nation.
FIFA have sometimes turned a blind eye to some of the controversies surrounding other countries in the past, leading to Aboutrika’s frustrations and calls for ‘double standards’.
