Why Leo Messi wore Neymar's no.10 jersey during PSG's game against Nice – explained

Lionel Messi donned his trademark no.10 shirt for the first time as a PSG player during their loss to Nice in the Coupe de France Round of 16 game on Monday.

The Argentine usually wears the no.30 for the Ligue 1 club, but was able to make an exception for this game.

This was allowed because in Coupe de France games, rules state that the starting XI of teams must wear from no.1-11.

Substitutes can wear numbers below 25, which means Messi couldn’t wear his original no.30 shirt.

With Neymar injured, Messi decided to don the no.10 shirt in the game – in which the players didn’t have their names printed in the backs either.

However, it turned out to be a disappointing evening for Messi – as he saw his PSG side lose in the penalty shootouts and get eliminated from the French cup competition.
