Is Xavi Simons really named after Barca icon Xavi?

Xavi Simons is said to be dreaming about re-joining Barcelona on loan this summer.

This could be a really special move for both him and Xavi – the Dutchman was named after the Barca legend, as per the 21-year-old's father. The relative also revealed that his son really treasured a pic he took with the iconic midfielder one day.

While the player's Paris Saint-Germain features 'Simons' on the back, he requested to wear 'Xavi' after joining RB Leipzig on loan.

Simons' father, Regillio, is a former professional player who spent most of his career in the Netherlands. He currently manages top-division Eredivisie side Volendam.

As for Xavi Simons, the attacker was part of La Masia from 2010 to 2019 before he left the club for PSG.
