“No one from Atletico Madrid has asked me about Mason Greenwood. The only one who asked me about the player was Barca president Laporta,” Getafe president Ángel Torres said on RAC1.
"I spoke to him and Deco, and they explained why they liked the player," the Getafe chief added.
This confirms all the rumours about Barcelona's interest in Greenwood and possibly handing him the number 10 shirt at the club.
However, Barca have since cooled their interest in Greenwood. Fabrizio Romano says the idea of signing the Englishman is completely ruled out now.
Greenwood had a career hiatus between 2022 and January last year after his girlfriend claimed he had beaten and raped her. But she would later drop the charges and the player was allowed to walk free.
Regardless, the media hype following the scandal forced Greenwood away from England and Manchester United. He found a haven in Getafe where he has been on loan since the summer.
The Englishman has since bagged 10 goals and six assists in his 32 appearances for Getafe this term. It's not been a bad spell for a man who was away from football for over a year. But is Greenwood Barca quality?
