Barcelona have 69 days to sign Dani Olmo – explained

Barcelona have between now and July 15th to trigger the €60m release clause of Dani Olmo or forget about the player, Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo reveals.

Last summer, Olmo penned a new contract with Leipzig keeping him at the German club until 2027. But a release clause was inserted in the deal which will be active until mid-July after the final of Euro 2024 — in 69 days!

Barcelona are reportedly showing a strong interest in Olmo who can play in midfield and attack like Bernardo Silva.

In April, Barca's sporting director Deco met with Olmo's father and the conditions of his contract at Leipzig must've been made clear to the Blaugrana chief.

Olmo was trained in Barca's La Masia and has spoken of his affection for the club in the past.

“Barca will always have a special place in my heart. It was a privilege to have played there," Olmo said.

"They [Barca] are a reference point for the rest of the football world and any child would give anything to play there, where so many greats have come and learned the trade.”

Olmo is an interesting player who has established himself in the Spanish national team. But like Gavi and Pedi, injuries have taken a toll on the ever-smiling forward limiting him to just 25 appearances this season. He still managed to register eight goals and five assists.
