Played Balde as right winger and more – real reasons why Barca sacked Victor Valdes

Barcelona's legendary goalkeeper Victor Valdes was sacked after just three months in charge of Barca U19 in 2019.

Diario Sport have finally revealed the details behind the club's decision.

Firstly, Valdes came up with a revolutionary training method called Futtack, comparing players to chess pieces and focusing on the unpredictability of their actions during a game. These ideas conflicted with La Masia methods.

Secondly, Victor actually implemented these practices in matches. He ignored the classic 4-3-3 formation, explaining that he wants his team to be very dynamic and attack-minded.

In one of the matches, the Barca legend actually played Alejandro Balde as a right winger and Ilaix Moriba as a striker while some other players were occupying unfamiliar positions.

All this made the club feel uncomfortable about Valdes' work; besides, Victor had a heated clash with Patrick Kluivert, the head of the academy at the time. It's worth a mention that Josep Maria Bartomeu was the president back then.

The 42-year-old is now without a club after working as a goalkeeping coach at UA Horta in 2020/21.
