"God created me to delight people with my goals," Romario once said. And true to his words, the iconic Brazilian has returned to the pitch to do it again after 15 years of retirement.
While the 58-year-old is yet to play an official game for America Rio de Janeiro, he's already back in training. He's finding the experience less than pleasant, though.
"I'm fucking tired," he told media after his latest session. "In a while the stretcher will come to pick me up. I haven't trained for 16 years, but I managed to run a little.
"I want to make one thing very clear — I will not play the entire championship. My idea is to play for a few minutes in some matches."
Despite feeling the pace of the game after nearly two decades away, Romario remains in high spirits.
"If there is a penalty, our club president will ask to take it. If the coach says no, he will be fired and the club president will take the penalty anyway."
