Xavi's decision to continue as Barcelona coach for one more year did not go down well with some board members at the club.
Explaining the situation, a source told RAC1 that Barca president Joan Laporta had a pact with the board to let Xavi go at the end of the season.
Laporta was down with the plan until he discovered the club didn't have the finances to hire a competent manager. Laporta told Xavi he could not be replaced and the ex-midfielder decided to change his mind and stay.
The board members who are against Xavi staying back as coach may even resign as the club didn't follow what the board initially agreed upon, the source says.
Xavi has the backing of sporting director Deco, president Laporta and vice president Rafa Yuste. However, he must prove himself worthy of their trust next season or he could well be fired midway through the campaign.
Barcelona have announced a press conference at lunchtime Thursday where Laporta and Xavi will officially reveal the final decisions made on Wednesday night.
