Joao Cancelo's future at FC Barcelona has gone from being secure to being in serious doubt after he made alarming mistakes in two season-defining matches for the club, Mundo Deportivo say.
Cancelo's first major error was in the second leg against PSG in the Champions League quarter-final. The defender was caught sleeping as Ousmane Dembele fired home PSG's equalizer on the night.
Cancelo would then give away a penalty with a rookie tackle that handed PSG the lead on aggregate.
It seemed like Cancelo didn't learn his lesson from that match as he repeated the mistakes in El Clasico — first, he was caught napping as Lucas Vazquez breezed past to win a penalty off Pau Cubarsi.
The Real Madrid right-back also took advantage of Cancelo's lack of awareness to equalize for his team on the big night. It was an identical goal to the one Dembele scored at Barca and Madrid would eventually win the game 3-2.
Barcelona would have to spend around €40m to keep Cancelo at the club next season. Barca directors are against the idea as the player struggles in defence and turns 30 in May.
