Rio Ferdinand confesses he was EMBARRASSED by Barca legend in UCL final – not Messi

Barcelona and Manchester United clashed twice in the UEFA Champions League final between 2009 and 2011, creating memorable encounters on the European stage.

Despite the brilliance of Lionel Messi, who scored twice in those matchups, former United defender Rio Ferdinand recently revealed that it wasn't Messi who left him most embarrassed on the pitch.

Reflecting on the 2011 Champions League final at Wembley on Stick to Football podcast, Ferdinand recalled:

"I remember that I picked up the ball in a small fight with [Sergio] Busquets. There was little time left to play, and they were winning. He turned to me and said, 'You, [Nemanja] Vidic, boom boom boom.' I've never felt so embarrassed in my life."

It was a cheeky jab at United's tactics. The Catalans dominated possession with 63%, leaving few chances for the English side to build up play and making them resort to long-balls in hope of creating scoring opportunities.

"Barca were too good. They took all the weapons off us, and we went to a fight with no guns and no knives, and that’s what it felt like.

“That was the only time in my career that I thought we could not do anything," he concluded.
