Once upon a time, the Messi-Ronaldo debate was the hottest topic in the football world. For almost a decade, these two giants dominated La Liga, constantly vying for the Ballon d'Or and the top scorer spot.
While the Portuguese was visibly invested in the rivalry, always striving to outperform Messi, some wondered if the Argentine ever cared about said rivalry at all.
Speaking to talkSPORT, former Barcelona captain Gerard Pique, who spent most of his career alongside Leo, revealed:
"No, he's not that type of guy. He's very team-focused even though he was getting front-page headlines in the newspapers. Individual awards wasn't something of a priority to him."
Well, cared or not, but it's Leo Messi who ended up with most Ballon d'Ors and a whole World Cup trophy to his name, putting an end to the GOAT debate for good in 2022.
