How Memphis Depay Champions League goal for Atletico Madrid harms Barca

Memphis Depay took no prisoners when he came off the bench for Atletico Madrid in their Champions League round of 16 clash against Inter Milan

The Dutchman grabbed the second goal on the night to force the tie into extra-time and later penalties. He then smashed home his spot kick to give his team an advantage to then go onto win.

While Depay is a former Barca man who is wished well by many in Blaugrana, his heroics for Atletico was more or less a setback for Barca in their race to qualify for FIFA's revamped Club World Cup taking place later this year.

With Atleti advancing to the Champions League quarter-final, Barca's entrance into the Club World Cup has become more difficult than ever.

To make it through, Barca must hope that Atleti loses their two quarter-final matches. Barca would also need to qualify for the semi-final while at least winning two and drawing one of their remaining games in the Champions League.

So far only 10 teams have have qualified for the Club World Cup from Europe, they are: Chelsea,Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Inter, Porto, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.

Of the two slots, one belongs to the potential Champions League winners if they haven't qualified already.
