Some senior members of the Barcelona squad recently met Barcelona president Joan Laporta to demand a winning bonus for the 2023 Spanish Super Cup, La Vanguardia reveals.
Laporta's first response was to ask Real Madrid how much they paid their players for beating Barca to the same title in January 2024. The answer — zero Euros!
Thus, using Real Madrid's example, Laporta rejected the request of the Barca players.
Barcelona have no strict rules regarding bonuses for competitions won outside La Liga and the Champions League, Barca could decide whether to pay a bonus or not, and in the case of the Super Cup the club chose the latter.
After losing the Super Cup 4-1 to Real Madrid, Barcelona were then knocked out of the Copa Del Rey by Athletic Club. It means Barca can still win La Liga and the Champions League this year. Although there's a slim chance of any of that happening.
