In the summer of 2021, Barcelona fans were left stunned to learn that the club had decided to part ways with one of their emerging gems from La Masia – Ilaix Moriba.
Moriba left the club under controversial circumstances after his entourage reportedly refused to accept Barca's salary offer in his new contract. Moriba now seems to regret making that decision.
“I have made mistakes and that is what life is about," Moriba tells a press conference.
"I have a great love for the club of my life, Barcelona. I made mistakes and now I'm at a point where I want everyone to see the player they once saw.
"I'm looking forward to starting to play here, for everyone to start respecting me as they did.
"Whether or not a correct decision was made (in leaving Barcelona), the truth is that I'm happy now to be here and I want to show that I am still the same and I want to work for it,” Moriba added.
Since leaving Barca, Moriba has had a journeyman's career crisscrossing through Germany and Spain.
Barca sold the youngster to RB Leipzig where he failed to break into their first team. Leipzig then loaned him to Valencia in 2022 and now to Getafe last month.
The 21-year-old played for Guinea at the AFCON and picked up an adductor injury which will further delay his debut for Getafe.
Moriba might hope to play for Barcelona again in the future but that chance seems dead and buried right now.
