Speaking about Barcelona’s ambitions after their recent loss in the Spanish Super Cup final, Frenkie de Jong said: “Real Madrid deserved to win the Supercopa, but that doesn’t mean our season has been bad.
“We’ve lost unnecessary points and must improve, we know that. We have quality, but we lack forcefulness and sometimes concentration.
“Winning La Liga also depends on Real Madrid and Girona, but we have a squad, that, if we improve, has a chance to win many of the remaining games. We can still fight for La Liga.”
De Jong makes a valid point, as a lack of concentration has caused Barca to drop points in games they really should have won in La Liga this season.
Xavi needs to get the ruthlessness out of his squad again to get them firing on all cylinders and get back into the title race, with the Blaugrana currently eight points behind La Liga leaders Girona.
