Xavi hints at possibly starting four midfielders in El Clasico - we draw the lineup

Barcelona face their first major test of 2024 when they play the Spanish Supercopa final against Real Madrid on Sunday (January 14).

Xavi might have to tweak his tactics a little bit to ensure that his side isn’t overrun or outplayed by Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The gaffer indicated after the game that Sergi Roberto might start in that game, saying: “For me, Sergi Roberto is a very important player and he will be important against Madrid.”

Frenkie de Jong and Ilkay Gundogan are undroppable after their performances against Osasuna. Pedri is likely to start in the game and Xavi might’ve hinted that he’ll play with four midfielders.

This could lead to Roberto and De Jong being placed in a deeper role to help shield the back four and also put an end to counter-attacks.  

Pedri and Gundogan can play just in front of them, helping move the ball forward to Joao Felix and Robert Lewandowski to work their magic.  Here is what the lineup could look like with four midfielders starting.
