Marcos Alonso is set to undergo surgery in the coming month, reports Javi Miguel.
The defender has been suffering from a lower back problem that has prevented him from playing since October 2023.
Barcelona are now prepping Alonso to undergo the same back surgery Ter Stegen underwent earlier in December 2023.
Alonso's surgery is also expected to be performed by the same specialist Dr. Amélie Léglise in Bordeaux who operated on Ter Stegen.
On Thursday, December 28, 2023, Alonso turned 33 but this has been a terrible year for him after seeing himself slip to the bottom of Barca's pecking order in defence.
The Spanish defender has featured in seven of Barca's 24 matches this season and is tipped to leave at the end of this season when his contract is due to expire.
