'He told me': Inaki Pena reveals how Xavi convinced him to stay at Barcelona

"Xavi told me that he saw potential in me to be a first-team goalkeeper and I responded that, for that to happen, I needed to go out and see myself compete somewhere else," Inaki Pena told Relevo.

The Spaniard spent half a year on loan with Galatasaray in 2022, getting the first team experience he craved.

The goalkeeper signed a new deal with Barca in the summer of 2023 despite interest from other clubs. And now he's getting his minutes as Ter Stegen is injured.

"I renewed last year because Xavi gave me all the confidence, he told me that he saw in me the conditions to compete with Marc." 

Pena has made seven first-team appearances for the Catalans so far this season, as compared to just five last term.
