European Super League can be back on track as court rules against UEFA and FIFA restriction

The European Super League, which stirred controversy in 2021, is making a potential comeback following a recent European Court of Justice ruling against UEFA and FIFA.

The court declared UEFA and FIFA's actions illegal, stating that prior approval rules were in violation of EU law. A22 Sports Management CEO Bernd Reichart, a staunch supporter of the Super League, celebrated the ruling, proclaiming newfound freedom for the clubs.

"We have won the right to compete. The UEFA monopoly has ended. Football is FREE. Now the clubs will no longer suffer threats and sanctions. They are free to decide their own future," his message on social media reads.

Barcelona and Real Madrid were the last two clubs to stand firm behind the project. Despite earlier criticism for its closed structure, the Super League is considering a revamped format that could include up to 80 teams.

The potential launch of the Super League holds the promise of a substantial revenue injection, estimated at around €1 billion, offering a crucial financial lifeline to both clubs grappling with financial challenges.
