FIFA confirms new Club World Cup format from 2025 - is Barca in?

FIFA have officially confirmed that there will be a Club World Cup in 2025 which will involve 32 teams from different confederations.

UEFA will be represented by 12 clubs -- the Champions League winners between 2021 and 2024 and eight clubs decided based on sporting ranking in the same period.

So far, the eight teams qualified for the tournament as winners are Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Another four determined by rankings are Bayern, PSG, Inter, Benfica and Porto.

Cutting to the chase, Barca are yet to secure a spot for themselves.

The new CWC format allows up to two clubs per country (unless there's more than two UCL winners in that period).

As Real Madrid have already secured a spot as the 2022 European champions, Barcelona will have to fight for theirs with Atletico.

Atletico currently leads with 62 points, while Barca have 55.

The only guaranteed way to finish above Diego Simeone's side is to win the title this season.

Alternatively, the Catalans will need to outperform Atletico by advancing further in the competition, making up for a seven-point disadvantage.
