Fan credits Bartomeu for Barca's best transfer deals in last 25 years

Former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is often criticised for dragging the club into financial mud, particularly with the Barcagate scandal that saw him resign before the end of his tenure.

However, a Barcelona fan on Reddit cannot help but notice two bargain transfers Bartomeu brought to the club during his tumultuous regime.

"[Perhaps] Barto completed two best transfer deals we've made in the last 25 years," Barca fan Joldata says.

"Pedri was signed for €20m euros and Ronald Araujo for €5m euros, two mainstays of this team for the next 10-15 years.

"I can only think of Yaya Toure, Alba, Ter Stegen and Alves but none come close to the bargain of those two," he concludes.

"I would add Pique to the bargain signings. 5m for a top-class center back that lasted more than 10 years," another fan added.

The fans are probably correct in their assessment. Pedri and Araujo will go remain the spine of Barca for the next decade. Araujo for one was recently named Barca captain and Pedri already won the Golden Boy and is valued at €1 billion.

However, Bartomeu can also be credited for Barca's worst transfer deals when signings like Griezman, Coutinho and Dembele are put into perspective.
