Aguero tells heartbreaking Messi story from 2021: 'Once every 3 days he'd say Barca extended his contract'

"During the Copa America [in 2021], Messi had a Barca shirt in our room [Leo shared it with Sergio]. Once every three days he'd say: 'I think they extended my contract, you're going to have to take me a picture with it for the official announcement'. And every time we were ready, they told him: 'Not yet'," Sergio Aguero has said on Twitch.

After a while, Barcelona told Messi they would be unable to register his new contract in La Liga. This apparently happened because of Barca's difficult financial state, although there was a rumour about Joan Laporta and Gerard Pique actually deciding against keeping the Argentine.

Anyway, Messi's relationship with Laporta has never been the same since then. This seemingly had an impact on this summer's saga when Leo quickly accepted an offer from Inter Miami instead of waiting for Barcelona for some more time.
