'I will do my best': Inter Miami president announces plan for Messi's tribute match with Barca

. When the new Camp Nou opens, maybe there will be something, so that 

 can say a proper goodbye [to Barcelona], but that does not mean he'll play for Barca," 

 president Jorge Mas has told the media. 

"I will try my best to arrange a match," he added.

This is big news. We could have a really special Joan Gamper Trophy match already next year if Barca come back to Camp Nou ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Earlier, Joan Laporta revealed the idea of holding Messi's tribute match 

 which is November 2024. By then, the Catalans are expected to play at the new stadium but with a limited capacity.

Anyway, we should expect Leo back at Camp Nou in 2024 or 2025. Everything indicates that the tribute match will surely be organised as all the parties - 

The legendary Argentine scored 672 goals and provided 269 assists in 16 years at Barcelona.

Laporta confirms Messi can return to Barca

 president Joan Laporta has kept the door open for 

"Barcelona will always be his home," Laporta said in his interview with ESPN. [Messi's return] is something that will be seen in due course. 

"It depends on many things, on what he wants and the circumstances are given, but he already knows that Barca will always be his home. That's how it has always been with the great players that the club has had throughout history. 

The president expressed his frustration at Leo's departure in the first place.  

"I felt sad," Laporta said. "But I put the club above the player. I wish everything had been different, but our situation was not good and we had to make decisions. My conscience is clear because I know I did what I had to do.

"We did everything we could based on the club's situation. Even La Liga allowed us to fit the player in. 

"We had a 'plan' and Leo had his. His father was very clear and I thanked him. He had spent time under great pressure in PSG and thought that the Miami option was the best for him to get out of the spotlight."

Laporta adds that he's happy to see Messi happy in Miami. 

"He can contribute a lot to Inter Miami and to soccer in the United States," Laporta said. 

"We are happy if Messi is happy. With his arrival, that of 

 are going to have a team of enormous quality and who have been everything in world football."

Messi has already scored three goals in his first couple of matches for Inter Miami.

El Pistolero still has another year and a half on his deal, taking him until December of 2024. 

The MLS side might try to land the player at DRV PNK Stadium in January, though.

The 36-year-old has been on fire lately, bagging 13 goals and providing 9 assists in just 31 appearances for the Brazilian side.
