Speaking about the prospect of Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona after their La Liga title win, Joan Laporta said: “History backs us, the feelings are too strong, we have 400 million fans around the world too.
“He is a Paris St-Germain player and we have to wait until the end of the season, until it is over, and then we can talk more calmly about this. With all due respect to Saudi Arabia, Barca is Barca, and it is home.”
“We want Leo — we will not offer crazy figures for that or any other deal. We’ll try to make things work with viability plan, waiting for the approval. Where would Leo play? Up to Xavi, it’s never an issue with the best player in the world.”
Messi is also attracting major interest from Saudi Arabia club Al-Hilal, who are willing to offer him crazy money to join them. However, Barca are going to push for his signing and needs to fix their wage bill issues to sign him in the summer.
To do that, they’ll probably need to sell multiple players and also get La Liga’s permission once able to get their financial viability plan approved.
