Barcelona Femeni star Alexia Putellas has been out of action after tearing her ACL back in July 2022. It's probably the worst injury for any footballer to suffer.
Soon after, Alexia underwent surgery and started her road to recovery. ACL injuries typically take around 12 months to fully recover from. Yet seven-and-a-half months in, the 29-year-old has returned to training and already done some ballwork, with Barca optimistic that she will soon be able to train with the rest of the squad.
Putellas set her sights on a comeback for the UEFA Women's Champions League potential semifinals in late April.
"I want to recover properly, for my knee to be perfect and to be in the right shape to help the team - who are doing really well - to win lots of trophies. That would be ideal, although I don’t want to take any risks”, she explained. "I’ll let you know when I’ll be back. My knee will decide."
Winning all 20 games in the domestic league, the Blaugrana ladies are having an impeccable campaign. Putellas' return would be the icing on the cake, though.
