New European Super League announced, aimed to replace Champions League - explained

The European Super League is intending to make a comeback with a new format, according to the project's sister company A22.

The new version is reported to be a 'multi-division competition of 60 to 80 teams with no permanent members and a minimum of 14 games per club, per season.'

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus remain the backers of the project. They reportedly have contacted more than 50 clubs over the creation of the new competition that could replace the Champions League.

The first effort to launch the European Super League failed as the founding clubs were forced to come up with some new format.

If the new competition emerges, it will most likely begin in a few years from now.
