Kounde explains why he wore gold chain in World Cup match v Poland

The France v Poland match at the World Cup gave off 1990s vibes for one simple reason - Jules Kounde started the game with a gold chain around his neck. Here's how the Barcelona player explained it after the match.

"I forgot about it. It never happened to me, neither in Spain nor anywhere else, but this time, I forgot. The referee only told me to take it off, nothing more," Relevo quote the defender saying.

Wearing any kind of jewellery is against the rules as it puts the players' health at risk. The referee has to control the check the players before the match, so he was partially responsible for Kounde starting the match with a gold chain.

Jules wasn't sanctioned in any way since he took the necklace off when told to.
