Enzo Fernandez could miss rest of season with freak problem

Enzo Fernandez could miss the rest of the season with Chelsea with a hernia problem, reports South American outlet Ole.

Enzo was forced to miss Chelsea's 6-0 win against Everton with the same issue but club doctors found a way to temporarily treat the problem allowing him to return to training this week.

While Enzo is now in line to make the squad for Chelsea's FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley, sources say he is running out of time to find a permanent solution to the issue, which would require surgery.

If Enzo agrees to undergo a hernia operation he would need at least three weeks to recover. That would mean he likely misses the opening weeks of Copa America which starts on June 20.

The only way Enzo can have that operation and still feature from the start for Argentina at the Copa America is if he ends his season with Chelsea before May.

It is said that the pain still creeps up for Enzo intermittently, but as it stands, the player has yet to make a final decision on whether to undergo surgery before the summer.

Enzo is a key player for club and country having won the Best Young Player Award at the World Cup in 2022. The midfielder has featured 38 times for Chelsea this season scoring seven times and making three assists.
