What's next for Alfie Gilchrist after new Chelsea deal?

Chelsea have given Alfie Gilchrist a new deal. The defender has signed a contract through to 2026, with an option for a further year.

The Athletic report that the Blues intend to loan the centre-back out next season, with several Championship clubs already expressing interest in his services.

Both Chelsea and the player feel that he would benefit from more playing time.

Alfie has made 12 first-team appearances across all competitions for Chelsea this season, five of them as a starter.
