Romelu Lukaku appears to make U-turn on Saudi Pro League after rejecting offer last summer

Despite kicking the last ball for Chelsea in 2022, Romelu Lukaku is still a Chelsea player and looks set to be back after his loan at AS Roma expires.

With few clubs willing to take on his massive salary, Lukaku appears to be looking at an option that he rejected last summer: the Saudi Pro League.

"In the next two years I see this league becoming one of the best in the world, if not the best," Lukaku said after Roma's 2-1 win over Al Shabab.

"The clubs make a lot of efforts to bring the 'big' players here. As a result, the teams and the footballing qualities are improving significantly."

When asked if he could see himself playing in the Saudi Pro League at some point, Lukaku answered: "Absolutely".

In 2023, Lukaku was offered a move to Al Hilal. Chelsea would've been more than happy to accept it as it meant finally getting the 30-year-old off their wage bill. The Belgian, however, refused it in favour of returning to the Serie A.

Lukaku's contract with Chelsea expires in 2026, but he's unlikely to play for the Blues ever again.
