Chelsea can only afford Osimhen on one condition (reliability: 5 stars)

Chelsea may not be able to afford Victor Osimhen from Napoli if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.

The Blues are interested in Osimhen whose current price tag is in the region of €150m despite his contract with Napoli less than 2 years away from expiry.

However, if Chelsea fails to qualify for the Champions League, Financial Fair Play restrictions will make the striker too expensive for the Blues, after they spent €1bn+ in three transfer windows.

It's still early days in the season but Chelsea's goalscoring woes have already been well documented. It's why top strikers like Osimhen and Ivan Toney continue to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Critics believe the Blues are a proven goalscorer away from becoming contenders in the Premier League and potentially in Europe. But it seems like Osimhen may just be too high for Chelsea to reach.

Ornestein suggests that Chelsea goes after a cheaper but proven goalscorer who can be more flexible in the final third. A case in point is Nicolas Jackson who arrived from Villarreal last summer for less than €37m. The Senegalese cannot be labelled a failure just yet, not with 6 goals in his first 13 games.
