'Price tags don't always mean quality': fan makes case for Tyler Adams signing - but only on one condition

Chelsea are going all-in on Moises Caicedo, but they are also exploring other options.

A report this weekend states that the Blues have been in contact with Leeds over Tyler Adams who has a modest ₤20m release clause and could arrive both in addition to or instead Caicedo.

In reaction to the news, Twitter user ExpectedChelsea made a case that the American could be a nice alternative to Caicedo - but signing both would make little sense.

"Unpopular take: While not my first choice, Tyler Adams wouldn't be a bad purchase," the fan tweeted.

"However, he needs to be a Caicedo alternative if he's signed, not a supplement. Signing both creates a logjam and is detrimental long term.

"Adams has exemplary defensive numbers and isn't too shabby on the ball, although he's not a premier progressor.

"His numbers are good considering Leeds' dysfunction and were even better in better teams. There is a lot to work with there.

"Tyler Adams is the kind of scouting signing I'd be interesting in exploring more, even if we don't sign all of them.

"Stats show proficiency in some aspects, the eye test shows promise, personality seems great. Price tags don't always mean quality.

"If we can't get Caicedo, there's no need for an expensive Plan B. Use our scouting to find somebody who can be reliable until Andrey [Santos] and Lesley [Ugochukwu] take over.

"Getting somebody expensive (besides Caicedo) complicates squad dynamics."
