Chelsea owners reportedly in talks to buy Portuguese top-tier club, got rejected by two other sides

Chelsea's owners are in talks to acquire Portuguese club Portimonense, the Evening Standard reports.

This is an attempt to start the multi-club model like the Red Bull Group or the City Football Group that is headlined by Man City.

Portimonense are currently fourth in the Primeira Liga in Portugal. They've been in the top tier since 2017, with a tenth-place finish their best result in that period.

Portugal is not the only country where Todd Boehly and his partners want to establish a foothold. So far, however, they've been rejected by French side Sochaux and Brazilian giants Santos.

Buying a club in Brazil is one of their main objective as it would help them to get around the work permit issues for South American talent.

Boehly has publicly stated his desire to build a multi-club model stating that the goal is to 'ensure pathways for our young stars to get on to the Chelsea pitch while getting them real game time'.
