Didier Drogba fails in his bid to become Ivory Coast FA president

Didier Drogba was defeated in the election for the Ivory Coast football federation (FIF) president, BBC reports.

The former Chelsea striker was ousted in the first round of the election, having won just 21 out of 130 votes.

In the end, the election was won by Yacine Idriss Diallo, a businessman and current FIF executive member, who defeated former FIF vice-president Sory Diabate.

The elections were delayed several times since 2020, with the eligibility of several candidates, including Drogba, in question.

The 44-year-old's candidacy was accepted only after FIFA appointed a normalisation committee to oversee the process.
