Speaking to 101 Great Goals, the former Chelsea defender praised his fellow countryman after another impressive season at Stamford Bridge.
"Everybody loves Kante and it’s easy to see why. For me at the moment, he is the best player in the world.
"I know people will talk more about strikers because fans like to see goals and they appreciate attacking players more.
"If you look at what Kante has done since he arrived in England, it is phenomenal. He won the league with Leicester City, then went to Chelsea and won it there.
"He has won the Europa League and now the Champions League as well as winning the World Cup with France. That is amazing, for me, he is the best player in the world."
N'Golo Kante has made an immediate impact for France in the tournament, helping them keep a clean sheet in a win over Germany.
With France looking brilliant once more, adding a Euros title to his list would elevate Kante into rarified air as a winner.
